Heviz to Zagreb

The plan: Gentle 15 minute walk downhill to the bus stop in Heviz. 10 minute bus journey from Heviz to Keszthely. Get on the train to Balatonszentgyogy. Change trains at Balatonszentgyogy to Zagreb. Easy!! Should be a good day.

Reality: I spent the night fretting about getting the luggage and us up and down off the trains. Our previous experience had told us that the regional trains are very high (shoulder height) from the platform. So, after the walk down the hill I suggested a taxi to Keszthely, good idea, lets push the boat out and get a taxi to Balatonszentgyogy? Then we only have one train to Zagreb. What bliss!! Ha ha ha. We got our taxi, we got our train, sharing a compartment with two very nice Danish back packers (oh, if I was young and single again!) then the nice lady conductor came through, `change train at next station`. So, we all got off and we all got on. `change to bus at next station` So we all got off, and we all got on. In the end the journey involved 2 taxis, 2 buses, and 5 trains. All I can say is THANK YOU DENMARK! Thank you for your lovely, well mannered, helpful, kind young people. Without them we would be up a siding somewhere in Hungary/Croatia. I still find it hard to jump off a platform and cross the railway lines, something that is illegal in Blighty, and my dodgy trotter was complaining like hell by the end of the journey.
