Gatwick to Dalaman

The funeral is on 20th November. We are flying out on 23rd. Flights, bus and accommodation all booked.

We are back on our adventure. Must say we can't wait. The bags are back out of storage and I am starting to fill them. I have a bit of experience now, so there are a few exclusions and a few additions. Also we are travelling during a colder season so we will need an extra pair of long trousers each. (In a bigger size!!!)

Waiting to rush! That accurately describes our lead up to recommencing the adventure. The last two days have been a mad panic. But finally we are off. Our dear Ruth takes us to the airport (tears all round). I am not fond of flying, it is boring. Nothing to see, nothing to do, stuffed into a tube of compressed air and germs. This time we have three girls sitting behind us talking constantly & loudly about their social lives. I know more about goldfish bowl cocktails now, I suppose thats a bonus. I swear they used up all the oxygen in the plane! Now I understand the appeal of noise cancelling headphones. We also had an hour sitting on the tarmac at Gatwick because we missed our slot.

Landing at Dalaman I was desperate to get off that plane. Norman said that my dropping to the ground to kiss the sweet Turkish earth was a bit of overkill and, frankly, embarrassing! :-) We are surprised at the amount of people who have forgotten visas. At the moment you can still get them at arrival but that facility will be stopping soon. Be warned. There is a shuttlebus to Fethiye (47k distance) which meets domestic flights. Its a bargain at only a couple of euros, but the next one is almost two hours wait. We are exhausted, so opt for a taxi. Its nearly dark when we arrive in Fethiye.

The apartment was not easy to find, perched up the hill with fabulous views of the marina. Our hosts show us around. Its a penthouse. I chose it for the outdoor space. It has a huge rooftop terrace with seating, table and chairs. The weather is due to break in the week so we plan to chill out and use the facility while we can. Inside we have a lovely bright living room with a comfy sofa bed, kitchen and shower room. Nice and bright and clean. Also there is a welcome pack - cornflakes, milk, water, chocolate, fruit juice, breadsticks, tea, coffee. How lovely, I wasn't expecting that!

It is on a hill. The walk down to the town is steep but its not far. We have some dinner and find the Migros (supermarket) for supplies. Back home we have a glass of wine and get into bed. Its quite chilly (not as cold as home though) and we are tired. We watch Tom and Jerry dubbed in German on the tv, then have a wonderful nights sleep.
